Journal Entries for 2007-04 W Caribbean Cruise
OVERALL SUMMARY: Steven and Christine booked their Princess Cruise a year ago and we were so pleased when they invited us to join them last January. We'd been talking about taking a cruise, but hadn't gotten around to planning one. This was a perfect opportunity and it fit well between our planned New Zealand/Australia trip and planned our RV trip.

A cruise is a different type of trip for us because what we like best is to have lots of time to explore a place and really get the feel of it. A cruise is in port for one day which only allows time for one activity. We were busy on the Internet for weeks before our trip getting information about the four ports-of-call and choosing the one activity that we most wanted to do. We decided to snorkel and/or take boat tours in each port except in Belize. Belize has really cool cave tubing tours!!! We didn't want to take any of the Princess tours, so we did our research and were armed with information about local tours when we docked at each port.

We're retired, so we had the luxury of spending a few days exploring the Houston and Galveston area before we took our cruise. We stayed in Galveston for three nights before our Princess Cruise. We went to Moody Gardens in Galveston on Thursday and the Johnson Space Center in Houston on Friday. Then we returned our car at the Houston Airport, met Steven and Christine on Saturday, April 7th and caught the shuttle to the Grand Princess in Galveston on Saturday.

We had a whole week at sea. Our four ports-of-call were Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. We had a great time snorkeling in Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel. We were very successful in staying away from the sites that are most popular with the cruise ships. Steven and Christine snorkeled with us in Costa Maya and we went snorkeling while they went diving in Cozumel. We all went cave tubing in Belize and it was really fantastic, although we weren't able to avoid the cruise ship people on the other tours. We recommend it to everyone!!!
